Well not the start to Christmas I had in mind. Winter was a full on training program ready for the new road racing season which I have secured some fantastic help from people to make 2008 possibly my most succsessfull year to date...
While at an Off Road training track I managed to break my leg. Now it could have been just a simple brake but no. The heel and Fibula where dislocated, the ankle fractured in eight places and the Tibula shattered at the bottom. The doctors took 50mm of bone from my hip to replace the shattered area in the leg and put the whole lot together with a 21cm plate and 12 screws.To help hold the leg in the correct position some external fixings have been used. They look worse than they are...
If all goes well the outer metal work will be off at the end of January and the work on my nerves and walking can start. I have every intention of being back to work sometime in late Febuary and back on the race bike mid March. Below are some pictures of the injury so far...


I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and messages. I can't tell you how important they have been, it makes a real difference.
In true biker style, on my way to the hospital with a tee-shirt that reads, RACING BIKES MAY BRAKE MY BONES BUT SECOND PLACE JUST KILLS ME.

News Flash
I have some dates to work off. The first is an appointment on the 10th for a review of my hip and the next is the 24th for some x-rays. If the x-rays show good things then there is a possibility that the external supports will be removed. They tell me it's done under a local and the pins are unscrewed with a spanner, hope its a snap-on spanner...
